A technological and culture historical experience with the diesel engine in focus

Motor men and power house women

DieselHouse is a paradise for motor men, power house women and everyone else with an interest in technology and history. The museum centres on a gigantic diesel engine from 1932 telling the story of the development of diesel technology, B&W and H.C. Ørsted works.

Motor noise

The main attraction at DiesleHouse is without a doubt the colossal B&W diesel engine from 1932, which for over 30 years was the largest diesel engine in the world – and it is huge: 8 cylinders, 1.400 ton and 12,5 times 24,5 meters. The gigantic engine is the centre of the museum, but many other engines are part of the exhibition, and the sound and smell of the working motors is a large part of the experience at DieselHouse.

A story about the future

DieselHouse is a modern museum with interactive exhibitions, where the story of the technological development is connected to the story of the development of Copenhagen's energy supply, the B&W shipyard and motor factory over 150 years, and about transportation of goods across the oceans and the use of diesel technology all over the world. The story spans from the end of the 1800s, to the present – and into the future.

Technological and culture scientific research

DieselHouse is owned by MAN B&W Diesel and was created in collaboration with the Museum of Copenhagen. This means that both experts in technological and cultural historical research have created the museum’s exhibition. This mix between the world of science and world of the humanities makes the museum a very special experience.
