Art in Progress

FACTS

Art begins here

The previous school next to the church highlights the actual creation of the work of art in its collections and various exhibitions, which have inherent dynamics equivalent of an ongoing process.

Initial studies and sketches

Køge Art Collection of Sketches has the status of being a special museum for the artistic process. Since its foundation in 1977 the museum has acquired about 12,000 work of art, sketches, studies, models and working samples for works of art placed in public spaces in squares, streets, sculpture parks, banqueting halls, libraries, entrances to hospitals, pools, churches and other places.

Køge Art Collection of Sketches takes it departure in about 1850, and the museum is sympathetic to and sometimes even participates in making paintings of today, and among its activities it runs an art school for both adults and children.

One of the greatest works of art in the collection, the studies of Bjørn Nørgaard and the original painted models, the cartoons of the Queen’s Tapestries disposed and woven for the Banqueting Hall at Christiansborg. The Køge Art Museum of Sketches is the only special museum dedicated to the artistic process in the public spaces, and if you visit looking for completed works of art, you will be looking in vain. The museum is unique as it lets the visitor get an impression of the thoughts, techniques and the personalities of the artists, and you will get a feeling that the working artist is standing right next to you.

If sketches and models interest you, then take a look at the Royal Cast Collection, here
