The Black Diamond

FACTS
Paul Graham, Det Nationale Fotomuseum

“Absolute Black” is the term used for the mirror finished, black granite from Zimbabwe which reflects flashes of light from the water in the harbour, and moving traffic in the façade of the Royal Danish Library, called “the Diamond.”

The Diamond was inaugurated in 1999, and it was conceived and drawn by Schmidt Hammer & Lassen. In and outside the Diamond are recent works of art, such as the Danish painter Per Kirkeby’s great ceiling painting, the sculpture “City Fractal” for the Book” in the old victualling port.
