Hot-dog stands
If you are getting hungry on your way you can visit one of the many hot-dog stands in the city. You are always very close to these stands as they are placed on almost every corner of the street or on the next square. Maybe great-grandmother can remember the time when the first hot-dog stand arrived in Copenhagen. It happened in 1921, but at that time they looked differently, and you could not get hot-dogs but only red sausages.
La Glace
If you prefer coffee and cake you could visit the café named Conditori La Glace, which your great-grandmother surely knows and maybe she had visited herself as a child. This is Denmark’s oldest café, and since 1970 it has been the expert in homemade chocolate and layer cakes etc. The upper section is almost preserved as in 1924 when it was furnished with green marble tables and chairs in French Empire style. Here you might get an impression of how it was to visit a café when great-grandmother was a child.
The King’s Garden If you need to burn some of your energy, and the grown-ups need to relax, you can visit the King’s Garden in the middle of the city. Here you can play soccer on the playfield or you can splash in the water at the natural playground. Both are situated in the part of the garden towards Sølvgade. The grown-ups can enjoy refreshments in the outdoor culture-café Herkules, situated in the Herkules Pavillon in the garden close to the playground. |
